February 28, Thursday
5634 28.02 2216 *_AUSSIE 009_* wkg brisbane. Pos report, FL 360. Again
2242, next pos report. Solid signal. A343, CS-TQM leased from Hi Fly,
that departed Perth past 1700 UTC Thursday heading northwest. Picked up
by Maldives radar at midnight UTC, appeared to be going to a Middle East
destination, perhaps in the UAE
5649 28.02 1854 *_RSD 032_* wkg Shanwick. Received Iceland squawk code,
westbound. Per www.flightradar24.com <http://www.flightradar24.com>
notes should be RA-85843. a Tupolev TU154M. Any Russian government VIPs
on board?
8945 28.02 1616 *_Norland 6_* wkg Sondrestrom Information. A few minutes
earlier I had come across sign of life on the frq, and alerted target
groups, as traffic here is really rare. I copied three contacts during
the next hour - 1616 UTC: "On ground Daneborg 1615, next call on the
hour". 1645 UTC: "We were airborne from Daneborg 1642, destination
Mesters Vig, flight time one hour, POB 10". 1715 UTC: "Operations normal
1715, position 73.24N 021.58W, estimate Mesters Vig 1745". /Couldn´t be
more precise - Daneborg //http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daneborg//is the
HQ of the Northeast Greenland "Sirius" dog sled patrol, part of the
Danish military, and Mesters Vig
//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mestersvig//a bit further south of the
east coast, is a military outpost these days. I am not sure what kind of
flight this was, but certainly rare given the harsh weather conditions
in this cold region at the end of February. Norland 6 appears to have
travelled north earlier in the day, and was returning south in the
afternoon. Possibly a change of personnel (rotation) at Daneborg took
place Thursday. Exceptionally strong signals here, some of the best from
Sondrestrom in memory./
Norlandair http://www.norlandair.is/ is an Akureyri, Iceland based
airline. They would normally be most likely to check in with Iceland
8891. In this particular case they may have departed Sondrestrom in the
first place. Please note their new scheduled route to Constable Pynt,
East Greenland, starting March 06, 2013
