differences between 2.0m.5 and 2.0m.4 - October 15, 2020
 --------------------------------------------------------

 1) This update is mostly about JNOS internal BID generation and processing.

I've never had a good grasp of the BID process from day one, and feel
terrible
in some ways, but again have discovered some issues most certainly
contributing
to the propogation of 'dupes' to other BBS systems out there.

In 2015 (version 2.0j.7q) there was the case of proposals not being
uppercase
in the reverse forwarding, then in 2018 (version 2.0k.3B) there was an
attempt
to preserve the CASE of the message id (BID) for any messages
originating from
outside, basically don't touch the case of the BID when it comes in, and
don't
touch it on the way out - reluctantly done to accomodate other systems,
at the
same time honestly not understanding the implications of the 2018
change.

I've discovered two scenarios of JNOS generating it's own BID with
inconsistent
case (upper, lower, mixed). So if one has a more recent version of JNOS
and you
are forwarding with older versions, this will most certainly show up at
times.

My JNOS is configured with hierarchical addressing, which affects
internal BID
generation, hierarchical gives me uppercase, regular hostname does not.
Why was
this not caught earlier, probably because I have had hierarchical in
affect for
quite some time now. Also, if you use thunderbird (or any other email
client),
the BID is generated from a 'clipped off' portion of the very long
message id,
    most of time in lowercase.

The BID is now uppercased regardless of addressing configuration.

In the case of the email client, this is now a mute point, because this
version
of JNOS now generates the numerical portion of the BID using base36 on
the JNOS
internal sequence number, period - since base36 extends the range of the
BID to
several several million, instead of the old 'less then 100 thousand'.
(the base36 values are all generated in uppercase)

*** The CODE will be put into the RSYNC area in a day or so ***

still some issues to sort out, a little frustrated, but ...

Stuff being worked on - September 30, 2020
 ------------------------------------------

 1) Changing BID generation from base 10 to Base 36, it's done, just need to
release it.

 2) An ARDOP interface for BBS forwarding, some preliminary stuff has been
done already,
like setting up two PCs with corresponding speakers and microphones to
mimick an RF
connection between remote systems, but just going direct sound card to
sound card.

 3) The 'httpvnc' web based BBS prompt needs to be converted to "POST", it
was written
back in the day when I had limited knowledge and experience with HTTP
protocols.

The last version (basically the original one) uses "GET" which puts all
the
security sensitive stuff into the URL, it was never a good idea to do
that.

 4) Some NETROM related mods based on NEDA specs and reports of issues
encountered
while forwarding over NETROM links, reduction of extraneous prompting,
etc ...

 5) mime type in the JNOS mailer code (uggggg) ...

 6) support some basic ANSI colors for incoming TELNET sessions
