Peter,

The 1 in Port 2/1 is the stream within the port. Not all port types have
streams, (KISS ax.25 ports don't, but Pactor and Telnet do).

A circuit is basically a data endpoint. In this context both TNC Uplink Port
2/1(DF0NTS) and Host11(DB0NTS-9) are circuits. So a link through a node to
an application, or a link into and out of the node, consists of two linked
circuits. and MAXCIRCUITS should be at least twice the maximum number of
simultaneous connections you want to support through the Node.

73, John

Subject: [BPQ32] terminology question

When a user connects through a port to an application
the USERS command shows something like this:

TNC Uplink Port 2/1(DF0NTS) <--> Host11(DB0NTS-9)

On the right hand side is the stream number as listed
in the Streams Status Window and the application callsign.

On the left hand side is the port number. What do you
call the connection from the port to the switch (nr "1"
next to the user callsign)?

Are those called circuits?

Is MAXCIRCUITS twice the total number of those links from
ports to the switch?

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Best regards, Peter
