Jon,
Yes, you can run APRS with just the Internet connection. You can set up
the RF port even without a radio. It will work over the Internet, then
when you connect the radio it will start using that as well.

Thanks John,
I saw your message.
One other question, right now until I get the radio (in the mail almost
to the house), and programmed, is there any way I can set my config file
to work with APRS, even if it's using the internet, and once I get the
RF working I can update to talk with the radio and send to APRS via
internet.
So what I'm looking for right now is for it to talk to APRS online and
once I get the radio connected it will then also talk via RF.
I'm still adjusting my config file to incorporate APRS, thanks again,
